WEAVING WITH VOICES
A workshop in vocal improvisation, resonance singing, and folk song composing
This workshop explores the voice as a tool for expression and creativity. It focuses on group vocal improvisation, vocal resonance techniques including the basics of overtone singing, and the creation of original songs inspired by folk traditions. It is designed for both musicians and non-musicians interested in the voice as a medium for communication, collaboration, and personal exploration.
We begin with body and breath preparation, vocal warm-ups, and exercises in group listening. Participants engage in structured improvisation, using rhythm, repetition, and vocal layering to co-create evolving soundscapes. The process supports the development of responsiveness, leading and following, and building musical structure in real time.
The workshop continues with an introduction to vocal resonance and overtone singing. We focus on activating resonators in the body (chest, nasal, and oral cavities), stabilizing vocal support, and developing an awareness of harmonics. Through guided exercises, participants explore multidimensional aspects of vocal sound and resonance.
In the next phase, each participant begins crafting a personal short song, rooted in their own melodic and verbal material. Using guided prompts, participants develop melodic phrases based on their speech patterns, bodily rhythm, or imagery connected to nature or memory. Emphasis is placed on folk-inspired forms—simple melodies, repetition, and lyrics drawn from everyday life or natural themes.
The workshop culminates in collective song-making. Participants collaborate to compose vocal pieces inspired by natural elements, using rhythmic cues and shared leadership. The process encourages intuitive structure and creative cohesion. Participants may share their personal songs or contribute to group compositions in an open-form setting. The session concludes with a reflection on the creative process and space for feedback and discussion.
No prior experience is required. The workshop is open to anyone interested in using the voice as a tool for creative exploration, group connection, and sound-based expression.
